More likely than not, you may be a caring human companion for a beloved domesticated animal. You may be sparing no expense for the comfort and well-being of your pet, and gush over the cute little thing’s adorable traits on social media. You may be even posting videos of your pet’s naughty but lovable antics on your FB and IG accounts. And you describe yourself as an unabashed animal lover.
Then, you order a three-patty burger at a fastfood joint, coupled with chicken nuggets, then wash everything down with a milkshake.
So much for your whole lotta animal loving. You just ate your words, my friend.
This is the contradiction, the double standard, facing every pet owner who considers himself or herself an “animal lover” yet craves for the meat that, more than likely, came from animals that were brutally grown in inhumane conditions before facing cruel slaughter in abattoirs — a fate you would never imagine happening to your animal companion.
This is the reality that Anonymous for the Voiceless aims to make the public realize. Established in April 2016, Anonymous for the Voiceless (AV) is an international animal rights organization that specializes in street activism. After over 4,010 demonstrations in 729 cities worldwide, AV has convinced at least 216,102 bystanders to take veganism seriously.
Veganism is a lifestyle and a way of thinking that, according to vegansociety.com, seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
On August 26, AV members will convene in four cities for the first-ever Worldwide AV Meet Up.

Passionate volunteers will gather in Manila, London, Melbourne, and Toronto to hold a performance arts-style activity called the Cube of Truth, in order to raise awareness about the plight of animals in factory farms and vivisection laboratories. Here in Manila, the Cube will be held on Burnham Green in Rizal Park from 4 to 7 p.m.

Of this historic event, AV: Metro Manila member and Manila Vegans founder Nancy Siy said, “This is huge! Think about it. The Philippines, the land of lechon, the country named one of the most difficult places to eat vegan—we’re not only part of worldwide vegan activism, but we’re at the center of it for this event.”
For the past year, AV: Metro Manila has held Cubes regularly in Quezon City and most recently in Taguig. Forming a human cube while wearing Guy Fawkes masks and holding laptops that play videos of animal exploitation, the group’s demonstrations never fail to attract bystanders and encourage them to reconsider their lifestyle choices. So far, the Metro Manila chapter has inspired 543 individuals to take veganism seriously.
Members are looking forward to the Worldwide AV Meet Up on the 26th for a number of reasons:
- Manila is one of four host cities for this global event.
- Volunteers from outside the metro and other Asian countries are expected to join.
- This will be the first time that the chapter will use 32-inch flat-panel TVs, which were procured after a successful fundraising event.
