Isuzu D-Max Boondock takes hikers to foot of Mount Ulap

Isuzu Philippines Corp recently brought members of the local motoring media on a trek up Mount Pulag, one of the more popular destinations for mountaineers in the Cordilleras.

Using the latest edition of its reliable Isuzu D-Max pickup, aptly named the D-Max Boondock edition, the group rode from Manila to Itogon in Benguet province, where the jump-off for the trek began.

Mt. Ulap in Itogon, Benguet, was opened to the public last October 2015. At an elevation of 1,846 meters (6,100 feet), the mountain which is literally named “Mount Cloud” gained popularity among travelers and  hikers because of its scenic views overlooking the beautiful Cordilleras.

Trip Advisor rates the Mount Ulap trek as 4.5 out of 5, with 62% of reviewers grading it as “excellent” and 28% “very good”.

“As a beginner in mountaineering, your heart will bounce a thousand times trekking Mt. Ulap. For its best views of the mountains, refreshing smell and cold wind in the morning, the brightest sunshine that you can see, the sounds of animals…All those things must be experienced with your friends and family. Try it and you will never regret coming to Mount Ulap.”  — reviewer sanpablenia

“Visit this place during weekdays as there a lot of hikers during weekends. The sceneries along the way are so breath taking. Have a mandatory shot in Gungal Peak, though it is not for the faint hearted. A sunrise view on the summit is one of the best experiences.” — reviewer jhei12

“It was a hard hike for me. I’m not exactly the fittest person. There are several amazing views, some even resemble the mountains in New Zealand. If you’re a fit person, this is gonna be an easy climb. But if you’re like me, just pray to God you make it up the peak.” — reviewer Jerome M

Trek adventures such as this scenic hike traversing Mount Ulap are opened up to adventurous individuals and groups whenever they climb aboard the D-Max Boondock Edition. This pick-up can go farther outdoors with its higher ride height of 247 mm, 265/70 R 17 All-terrain tires wrapped around black rally-design R17 rims, monotube nitrogen-charged performance shock absorbers, steel side steps, roof rail, cargo extender, rocker panel, and over fender.

The D-Max Boondock Edition is powered by the Euro4 emissions rated 4JJ1-TCX 4-Cylinder in-line Blue Power 3.0-liter diesel engine with turbo intercooler and VGS Turbo Charger mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with gearshift indicator or a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift, both able to generate maximum power outputs of 177 PS at 3,600rpm and 380 Nm of torque at 1,800 to 2,800 rpm.
