1st road safety summit held in Pasig City

Honda Foundation Inc (HFI) and the local government of Pasig City collaborated for the first ever road safety summit (RSS) in Pasig Rainforest Park. The RSS aims to develop the road safety mindset and riding and driving proficiency among road users for the protection and welfare of society through partnerships with local government units. Likewise, the RSS provides practical road safety knowhow to the community in an easy-to-understand and enjoyable learning approach.

Present at the RSS were Seiji Fujimoto, HFI president and concurrent president of Honda Parts Manufacturing Corp (HPMC), HFI trustees headed by Honda Philippines Inc (HPI) president Sayaka Arai-Hattori and Honda Trading Philippines Ecozone Corp (HTPE) president Masanao Shikanai, Pasig Rep. Roman Romulo, and Pasig City officials.

HFI is the corporate social responsibility arm of Honda companies in the Philippines, comprising HPI (manufacturer/distributor of motorcycles and power products), Honda Cars Philippines Inc (automobile products), Honda Parts Manufacturing Inc (manufacturer/exporter) and HTPE (storage/warehousing).

HFI was established and registered as a non-stock, non-profit organization in late 1992. Since then, HFI has been “One with the Community” in its advocacies of protecting the environment, supporting the youth for the future, addressing community needs, and promoting traffic safety.

In 2019, the Honda team conducted safety riding promotions for motorcycle riders in the vicinity of the Pasig City Hall. The successful event was participated in by riders, the general public, Honda dealer partners, and employees of the office of the mayor. There were various activities, such as a road safety seminar, test rides, learn-to-ride sessions, product displays, and a vehicle safety features presentation. This time, the first RSS offered a wider scope of activities, showcasing for the first time not only Honda motorcycles but the latest Honda automobiles, as well as a lineup of power products such as portable generators, agricultural tools, and the like.

The RSS was joined in by over 500 road users—riders’ clubs, LGU employees, traffic enforcers, tricycle drivers and operators, students, and families visiting the Pasig Rainforest Park that day.

Fujimoto emphasized the importance of collaboration between the private sector and the government in mitigating the rising number of traffic-related road crashes. Romulo expressed appreciation and support to HFI’s advocacies, especially its program of instilling the road safety mindset on Pasigeños.

HFI’s road safety advocacy is aligned with the global Honda “Safety for Everyone” campaign. As part of Honda’s global worldwide direction, a comprehensive road safety strategy through close collaboration with governments is essential to achieve the company’s goal of reducing the number of road crash fatalities involving Honda’s motorcycles and automobiles, with the ultimate goal of zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050.
