Asean EV federation supports regional ecosystem development

The Asean Federation of Electric Vehicle Associations (Afeva) has announced its full support for the Asean Leaders’ Declaration on Developing the Regional EV Ecosystem. This landmark declaration, issued by the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), marks a significant milestone in the advancement of sustainable transportation within the region.

Afeva, an alliance of EV associations from Asean member countries, recognizes the crucial role that EVs play in promoting clean and efficient transportation solutions. By endorsing the Asean Leaders’ Declaration, Afeva aims to strengthen collaboration among Asean nations in developing a comprehensive EV ecosystem that fosters innovation, investment, and sustainable growth.

The Asean leaders’ declaration outlines key strategies and commitments to accelerate the adoption and integration of EVs in the Asean region. These include:

o Promoting the development of charging infrastructure: The declaration emphasizes the importance of establishing a robust and widespread network of charging stations, ensuring convenient access to charging facilities for EV owners across Asean members.

o Enhancing research and development: Afeva applauds the commitment to fostering research and development activities to support the creation of cutting-edge EV technologies. This focus on innovation will enable Asean members to strengthen their competitiveness in the global EV market.

o Encouraging harmonization of policies and regulations: Recognizing the need for a harmonized regulatory framework, the declaration highlights the importance of aligning policies and standards across Asean members. This alignment will facilitate seamless cross-border EV operations and promote regional collaboration.

o Facilitating industry collaboration and investment: The declaration underscores the significance of public-private partnerships and international cooperation to accelerate the growth of the EV industry. By fostering collaboration between governments, industry stakeholders, and investors, Asean can attract investment, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.

As an active participant in promoting electric mobility across Asean, Afeva is committed to supporting the implementation of the Asean leaders’ declaration. Through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and advocacy efforts, Afeva aims to contribute to the development of a thriving EV ecosystem that addresses the region’s environmental challenges and enhances its global competitiveness.

This year, each Asean member of Afeva has been hosting a series of EV seminars and exhibitions:
