GWM is back with two new hybrid models

Global brand Great Wall Motor (GWM) is back, and it recently previewed its hybrid lineup for the Philippine market. The GWM Group is an international automotive OEM (original equipment manufacturer) that aims to provide consumers with more intelligent mobility choices. Luxuriant Automotive Group Inc has become the country’s official distributor of GWM since October 2022.

GWM is set to take on the country’s very competitive segments as the brand prepares to start the sales of its two crossover SUV hybrid models—the Haval H6 and Haval Jolion.

Present during the preview event was GWM Asean President Elliott Zhang. “Today, joining hands with Luxuriant, our strategic partner in the Philippines market, GWM brings four outstanding products to this market, including our Haval H6 and Haval Jolion developed with GWM Intelligent Modular Architecture. In the future, GWM will continue to deepen our partnership with Luxuriant, with a commitment to introduce intelligent, green, and sustainable mobility experiences with advanced products and leading technologies, supporting the upgrade of the auto industry in the Philippines,” Zhang said.

The Haval brand has produced some of China’s best-selling SUVs for 12 consecutive years. GWM claims these SUV models have also overtaken the international market, generating record-breaking volumes.

According to Tonette Lee, marketing and sales director for Luxuriant Automotive Group, the brand brings in a new experience through new energy, technology, and intelligence at a vibrant and exciting time for the automotive sector.

“I welcome you all to experience the innovation and tech leadership of Great Wall Motor, as embodied by the vehicles in the GWM lineup for the Philippines. Our market has never been more exciting, and we would like to contribute our share, especially in green energy, towards sustainable driving at real-world prices,” Lee said.

GWM flagship model

The Haval H6 HEV will be GWM’s flagship model in the Philippines. Notable is its outstanding overall power output combined with impressive technology and safety features. Motivation comes from a hybrid system of a 1.5-liter turbocharged internal combustion engine with a 130-kW dedicated hybrid transmission capable of producing a combined output of 240 HP and 530 Nm maximum torque.

This compact crossover SUV offers class-leading safety features such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist (LKA), and traffic sign recognition and fatigue monitoring, to name a few.

Newest, most intelligent premium B-SUV

Meanwhile, the Haval Jolion HEV is the company’s newest and most intelligent premium B-SUV. Previewed during the event was the hybrid model with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated internal combustion engine mated to a 115 kW dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) capable of producing a combined output of 186 HP and 375 Nm of torque. According to GWM, the vehicle is inspired by bold architecture, refined by modern engineering, and embodies intelligent thinking.

This smaller model offers several convenient features like a large-format multimedia touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and wireless charging. From the ergonomically designed seats and a driver-focused cockpit to generous legroom and ample boot space, the Jolion has been designed with comfort in mind.

GWM claims that the 1.5-liter hybrid variant with DHT can achieve an average low-fuel consumption of 5 liters/100km. Like the H6, the Jolion offers innovative driving and safety technologies such as the 360-degree around view monitor (AVM) and adaptive cruise control (ACC), including class-leading level 2 autonomous driving capabilities.

Highly advanced lightweight platform

GWM’s Haval H6 HEV and Haval Jolion HEV are legitimate hybrid models capable of producing exceptional power while enhancing fuel efficiency. Both models share a highly-advanced lightweight platform independently developed by GWM from a global perspective. It also has a high safety rating and is perfectly integrated with new energy powertrains.

GWM aims to provide a solution for urban and long-distance driving through a high-efficiency hybrid engine and dual-motor hybrid connection. The technology also allows four driving modes—EV, series, parallel, and regeneration—each with fuel consumption and driving profiles or capabilities. The system results in smoother power delivery, better acceleration, reduced carbon dioxide emissions, and 35 to 50% fuel savings.

Luxuriant Automotive Group Inc publicly launched these hybrid models last April 11. Customers can visit the GWM UN Avenue dealership for inquiries and test drives. (Story, photos, and video by Randy Peregrino)
