TessDrive ed makes new personal record with his e-bike

Fresh from his 80-km first long ride on his modified Paselec GS9-Plus electric bicycle, TessDrive editor Aries B. Espinosa now sets his sights on an even longer ride, testing the limits of his e-bike battery’s range.

Aries returns to Rizal Province, but this time bound for the eastern fringe of Antipolo City, to a man-made lake on an abandoned quarry in Gitnang Pantay. For his return trip to Las Pinas City, Aries takes a detour to Marikina City via the rolling hills of Boso-Boso for a two-hour recharge of his e-bike at his sister’s place.

e-bike

All in all, this 12-hour tour is 120 km long and shows that Aries’ e-bike can go for 100 km on a single charge—given that 90% of the time the pedal assist level is at the weakest setting.

Here are the details of Aries’ modified Paselec GS9-Plus e-bike:

  • Frame: Aluminum-alloy full-suspension with 26-inch tires
  • Motor: 1,000-watt motor, instead of the standard 750-watt.
  • Battery: 14.5Ah, 48V capacity lithium-ion. Charging time from 20% to 100% is around 7 or 8 hours. The battery and BMS are placed inside the frame.
  • Weight: 32 kilos (70 pounds)
  • Gearing and speed: Throttle and pedal-assist modes (1 to 5), 7-speed gear shifter, with a top speed (throttle only) of 45 kph.
  • Climb capacity: Up to 30 degree-incline, or 58% grade.
  • Modifications: Frame, electrical, motor, and battery mods are done at the shop of Harry Cabigas Dela Pena in Pasay City. Check out his other e-bike builds on his Facebook page Harry ng Pasay, or on his personal account. Message him directly at 0946-5668484.
