The ‘high IQ’ all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQS makes Philippine debut

IC Star Automotive Inc, the official and sole distributor of Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the Philippines, launched on Jan. 16 the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 4Matic AMG at the Mercedes-Benz BGC showroom.

It’s the latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz EQ family that was introduced last year.

The all-electric luxury EQS sedan is the first model built on the modular design intended for executive and luxury-class electric cars, and seamlessly combines design, technology, safety, and connectivity.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS elevates the brand’s “Sustainable Luxury” experience in aesthetics, innovation, design and performance. At the same time, the EQS exemplifies the commitment of its developers and designers to electric mobility.

Coupe elegance, sedan spaciousness

The new EQS boasts the iconic Black Panel radiator trim with three-dimensional Mercedes-Benz pattern. Even when stationary, the EQS sedan embodies progress and dynamism: Flowing, seamless transitions and generously modelled surfaces follow the design concept of sensuous clarity. The characteristic one-bow design is created by the coupé-like roof line, which extends in an arc over the vehicle, over the frameless doors to the rear. With its one-bow lines and cab-forward fastback design, the EQS features a short nose and a one-piece aluminum clamshell hood that rises forcefully and slopes, flowing into a windshield with a severe incline. The EQS achieves a 0.20 coefficient of drag, making it the world’s most aerodynamic production vehicle.

The new EQS has a Panoramic Sliding Roof, so whether open or closed, the panoramic sliding sunroof gives that wonderful feeling of freedom and a bright and pleasant ambience in the interior. In addition, the new EQS features seamless door handles with chrome inserts that contribute to its beautifully sculpted design.

Furthermore, the new EQS offers digital light with ultra range high beam. The digital light, consisting of three light dots linked by a light band, adapts to the driving situation, traffic conditions, the course of the road and the weather. The rear lights, which have internal mechanisms shaped like a curved 3D helix and are joined by a light band, are also characteristic of the EQ family.

AI for next-level performance

Through artificial intelligence, the new EQS can make decisions almost instantaneously and learn over time how the car is used. The new EQS is also equipped with Zero-Layer interface, refining and personalizing the control and displays for the driver by suggesting numerous infotainment settings and vehicle functions.

As part of the MBUX infotainment system, adaptive software makes sure that the most pertinent applications are available at the top layer, and can make personalized suggestions for comfort, entertainment, or vehicle functions based on context and situation.

The MBUX Hyperscreen is the highlight in the interior with the 56-inch curved display. The Hyperscreen allows the user to view all information and issue voice commands more easily. The display has three screens merged by bonded glass. The driver has an OLED 12.3-inch monitor, the center has a 17.7-inch display, and the front passenger gets a 12.3-inch display. In addition, the EQS is supported by the Burmester 3D surround sound system with 15 speakers, wireless charging, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Screen content can be quickly and easily shared with other passengers. Selection and modification of navigation destinations is also possible from the rear seats. The MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System comprises two 11.6-inch displays with touch controls on the backrests of the driver and front passenger seats. The MBUX full-fledged rear tablet is also available as standard, and can be used outside the vehicle. In addition, apps (Android) can be installed. With this convenient remote control, all rear seat entertainment functions can be comfortably controlled from any seat position. Each seat offers an opportunity to interact with the vehicle for a unique experience for both driver and passengers.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS has up to 350 sensors, feeding control units and algorithms information to process. Obvious information includes distances, speeds and acceleration, deceleration, lighting conditions, precipitation, temperatures, and seat occupancy.

Ride comfort a la the S-Class

The new EQS prioritizes ride comfort with a four-link front and multi-link rear suspension similar to the luxurious flagship sedan S-Class. It features the AirMatic air suspension with adjustable damping and real-time adaptation to road conditions.

The new EQS can transform the rear passenger compartment into a connected feel-good lounge. Seating comfort is impressive with electrically adjustable backrests, climatized front and rear seats and comfort armrest in rear. The intelligent control option via the MBUX rear tablet in the comfort armrest is also an exciting feature.

The interior of the EQS comes with the Active Ambient Lighting consisting of 190 LEDs of wrap-around light strips and elements, forming an additional lighting level with 64 colors available. The system works visually with the MBUX voice assistant and recognizes the position of the person speaking.

Next-gen li-ion battery offers 717-km range

The heart of the EQS 450 4Matic beats with the sophisticated, high-energy density next-generation lithium-ion battery that sets a new benchmark in performance, efficiency and charging capacity. The 108.4 kWh battery pack has a maximum range of 717 km (WLTP). The new EQS could allow one to drive back and forth Manila and Baguio worry-free.

The new EQS is also equipped with 21-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels that add to the sporty and robust character.

The new EQS is a powerful EV with a responsive 4Matic all-wheel drive (AWD). When driving at a constant speed, an optimization process determines the most efficient AWD distribution in each case. The electric powertrain generates 360 hp and accelerates the vehicle from 0 to 100 kph in just 5.3 seconds.

The Mercedes-Benz Driving Assistance Package Plus gives you safety technology, thanks to the modern, intelligently networked sensor systems, you can enjoy the many benefits of semi-automated driving.

While the new EQS is a close relative to the new S-Class, the electric architecture is all its own. This luxurious electric sedan marks a major milestone in integrating progressive mobility with executive-class luxury.

The introductory price of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 starts at P9,990,000.
