TGR Philippine Cup resumes as biofuel ‘rolling lab’
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) will resume its premier motorsports series, the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Philippine Cup, with Race Weekend 2 scheduled for July 9 to 11, 2026, at the Clark International Speedway in Mabalacat, Pampanga. Following a temporary pause after March’s highly successful Race Weekend 1 in Cavite—which drew over 6,000 spectators and debuted the local Tamaraw Racing Class—the series returns with alternative energy innovation at the forefront.
For this second out of four planned race weekends, the TGR Philippine Cup is transforming into a competitive “rolling laboratory.” Under extreme racetrack conditions, the event will utilize low-carbon biofuels to run its two distinct one-make race (OMR) vehicle stables: The Vios OMR and the locally manufactured Tamaraw OMR. The high-demand competitive track layout will serve as an active test platform to evaluate the performance, reliability, and consumption benefits of a 5% coco-biodiesel blend (B5) and a 20% bio-ethanol blend (E20).
TMP noted that this testing aligns with its regional multi-pathway approach toward absolute carbon neutrality. Demonstrating existing fuel flexibility across its production lineups, three-quarters of current Toyota and Lexus gasoline models are natively E20 compatible, while 100% of the brand’s diesel variants are fully B5 compatible.
TMP first vice president for vehicle sales operations Elijah Marcial said: “Motorsports has always been a testbed for progress, and this season, TGR Philippines will take a step forward by actively exploring alternative fuels in competitive racing conditions. Testing biofuels in motorsports allows us to evaluate performance, efficiency and reliability in high-demand environments, so this will be a pivotal moment for the wider adoption of low-carbon biofuels in the Philippines.”
TMP vice president for government and industry affairs Elvin Luciano added: “As a company committed to reducing carbon emissions, we recognize that every activity must contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable future. Alternative fuels help reduce dependency on non-renewables like petroleum, so using biofuel for our motorsports events aligns with our multi-pathway approach, which includes diversifying our energy sources to contribute to our broader goal of carbon neutrality.”
The final day of track competition on July 11 is completely open to the public with free general admission.
